Julie Fakler Visits HHS Art Classes
HHS Success Story: Artist Julie Fakler

On Tuesday, October 20th, Mrs. Deb Sobeck's HHS art students had the honor of working with famous local artist and Houston, MN success story, Ms. Julie Fakler.  Julie graduated from HHS in 1992, and went on to graduate from Minneapolis College of Art & Design in 1996 with a BFA in painting and drawing.

Julie's Artist Statement:

I create vibrant original domestic animal paintings & pet portraits using acrylic on hardboard. Forget human models, my preferred models are chubby cats in addition to animals of all sorts such as dogs, chickens, cows and goats. I have been painting for as long as I can remember and I enjoy using acrylic paint to produce my works. I simply enjoy the movement of the paint and then of course the end product. I'm becoming more committed to my art, as I hope that some day I will be a full-time artist.  source: juliefakler.com

Mrs. Sobeck, Julie's art teacher at HHS, knew from the beginning that Julie would be a shining star:

"I noticed that at an early age Julie was a talented, self-motivated student who went above and beyond what was asked of her in class.  She would work on her own art projects and read about various artists and art movements at home and bring her newly acquired books and work to school to share with me.  I knew at that point she was self-driven and had high expectations of herself. Upon her graduation, Julie gifted me one of her paintings.  I kept the work and decided that if it was possible, I would give it back to her for a future artist retrospective show."

It's important to note that:

Mrs. Sobeck goes on to say,

"I was more than thrilled to have Julie return to her Alma Mater and speak to our students to teach them about her artistic techniques and endeavors.  Julie is a shining example of a young lady from a small town going forward with talent, determination, and confidence.  Julie Fakler is definitely another Houston success story."

Julie is a daughter of the Houston community and is currently employed full time as the Operations Manager at the Paradise Center for the Arts in Faribault, MN.  Find out more about Julie at her website, JMF Studio: juliefakler.com.
