Knowledge Bowl Season Recap
Knowledge Bowl Season Recap
The Minnesota Service Cooperative Knowledge Bowl competitions are interdisciplinary academic contests for students. The Junior High Knowledge Bowl is for students in grades 7-9. During the contest, teams of students compete in written and oral rounds by answering questions related to all areas of learning, typical of secondary educational programs. Questions test students recall, problem solving and critical thinking skills. This competition provides a format for student growth centered around academics.

Teams compete in Round Robin competitions at the Southeast Service Cooperative in October, November and December. Each team then competes in a Sub-Regional competition and the top twelve teams from each tier advance to Regionals in January.  There were 26 teams this year in Tier A.
The 7th grade team narrowly missed advancing to Regionals by 3 placings.  They improved at each competition and should be a strong team next year.  Seventh grade team members are: Jed Johnson, Noah Kingsley, Kiley Bailey, and Emma Forsyth.
On January 20th, the 8th and 9th grade teams traveled to Rochester for the Regional meet which is also the last competition of the junior high season.   At the Regional competition, Houston’s 8th grade team placed 12th.  They’ve come a long way this year and look to have a bright season next year.  Eighth grade team members are: Madalyn Srock, Elizabeth Larson, Josh Gatzlaff, Jarrett Erickson, and Mikkel Schutte.
The 9th grade team was in 3rd place going into the Regional meet.  They had a difficult written round which hurt their ranking but fought back each oral round to make an amazing comeback with a 3rd place finish in the region! They brought home individual medals and a team trophy to add to HHS’s Knowledge Bowl accolades.   The Freshman team members are:  Hayley Carr, Lilli Carlson, Ben Beckman, Trenten Kubitz, and Chris Bartz.
