Congratulations to all of the participants in the Section 1 Solo and Ensemble Contest held tonight at Rushford-Peterson. Houston HS Band had 16 entries on the night. Events are judged on a 40 point scale with 35-40 earning Superiors and 28-34 earning Excellents. We had 7 Superiors tonight and 9 Excellents. Earning Superiors were: Lucas Nelson - Trumpet Solo, Sydney Torgerson - Snare Solo (perfect score of 40!), Preston Peterson - Alto Sax Solo, Sax Trio of Amanda Cripps, Owen Sobotta and Logan Kinstler, Trumpet Trio of Lucas Nelson, Lawrence Traun and Morgan Rohweder, Sax Duet of Mason Albrecht and Preston Peterson, Woodwind Quartet of Jaden Woodard-Flute Caitlin Brand Clarinet Bella Millen Clarinet and Amanda Cripps on Sax.
Earning Excellents were: Priya Kingsley – Alto Sax Solo, Caitlin Brand – Clarinet Solo, William Carlson – Bari Sax Solo, Mason Albrecht – Alto Sax Solo, Snare Drum Duet – Julia Carr and Alex Walters, Flute Duet – Jaden Woodard and Violet Srock, Perc. Duet – Emily Weichert and Danica Stampka, Flute Trio – Ella Carrier, Avery Kingsley and Olivia Yohe, Mixed Woodwind Duet – Priya and Avery Kingsley. Four of these scored 34 out of 40, missing a Superior by just one point.
Congratulations to Sydney Torgerson! Sydney was named Best in Site for her Snare Drum Solo at the Section Solo and Ensemble Contest. She scored a perfect "40" on her solo, "Southern Special". Houston had a great night at the contest. Of the seven sites, Houston had 2 Best in Site performances.
