Students spreading mulch

As part of their annual service project, the Minnesota Honor Society students wanted to plan a COVID-friendly event but still find a way to give back to the community and school. Out of this vision came the 2021 Spring Clean-Up Day for all Houston High School students on Tuesday, May 25th. MHS students connected with various groups and businesses throughout the city as well as school staff to find out the needs of the community and understand how they could help.

Students were split into various groups led by a MHS member. Projected included: Painting the parking posts near the high school football and baseball fields, planting flowers near the HHS sign, cleaning the Community Garden, City Park and Nature Center grounds, spreading mulch at the library and the elementary school, and washing windows for area businesses. The day ended with ice cream treats for all and the satisfaction of making our community a better place. As Helen Keller once said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
