Houston's High School Music Listening team finished third out of nine teams during the SE Regional held Friday, January 21st at St. Mary's University.  The team is made up of senior Andon Storey, freshman William Carlson and freshman Casey Herek.  Salt and Light Homeschool from Rochester finished first and Decorah, Iowa Team 4 finished second, slightly ahead of Houston.  All the teams will advance to the Championship round which will be virtual on February 11.  


The Contest is a Knowledge and Name That Tune format featuring music from the Renaissance Period through music of the Last Century.  Featured composer this year was JS Bach with the influence this year being Music of South America.  Overall, 70 teams from 30 schools competed in 6 Regions across Minnesota and Utah.  Teams competing represented Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Utah.  The Music Listening Contest began in 1988  
The team is coached by Band Director Paul Grupe who has been a member of the State Board for the MLC since 1995.
